Tweezer Basics - A Beginner's Guide

Our tools as lash artists can make or break your artistry! Learning to choose the right tools for the job can mean experimenting with ergonomics, tension, performance, and of course style. 

What makes a great tweezer?

Tweezer Tension.

The softer, the better. When we look at what makes a lash tweezer incredible it starts with tension.  Tension is the amount of pressure required to create a solid, firm closure throughout the entire length of the foot. From isolation to volume fan making your tools of choice should always feature a soft tension meaning it takes very little pressure to open and close the tweezer.  Working for hours at a time with tweezers in both hands means a “stiff” tweezer can quickly lead to hand strain + fatigue. 

Beveled Edge.

The next must-have tweezer feature in our book is a beveled edge.  Without a smooth, beveled edge you’ll be left with some serious callouses, you deserve better!  A sleek, smooth design is the most comfortable option.

Your Isolation Go-Tos

Now we’ve covered some basics, let’s talk technique! Isolation can feel impossible when you’re new to the craft but here some game-changing tips:

Choose a slim, small 45 degree angle design. Based on how you prefer to hold your tweezer a longer, slim design like the B.F.F. (Long)  can be held more securely, almost balancing in your hand. This can help you maneuver through tricky angles like the inner corner. The small tip can also be less intimidating as you become more comfortable with your tools. Prefer a shorter tweezer? The B.F.F. (Short) has you covered with the same 45 degree angle foot!

Opt for a straight angle tweezer like the M.O. or the O.G. when you’re working with clients who have an upturned natural lash. This can allow you to isolate horizontally through the lash line. Consider the natural lash angle when choosing your isolation tweezer, you’ll quickly learn what tools fit your clients unique lashes.
